#7 Intertextuality
2013年7月31日星期三 04:16 0 Comment(s)

What is Intertextuality?
It is the interrelationship between texts, especially works of literature; the way that similar or related texts influence, reflect, or differ from each other.

As the word 'texts' is originally relate to literature, novel, poetry, and etc. But has since developed application to cultural artefacts in general to films, fashion, product design, games and more!

Nothing is original.

While in film studies, the use of intertextuality is to reference allusions and influences, or homage. All texts contain traces of other texts, and often considered and echo of other texts that shape and influence it. People can only understand it through their own knowledge of other texts.

Intertextuality has categorize into three different parts, which are homage, parody and pastiche.

So,
What is Homage?
An imitation of a respectful standpoint.

Definition
i. respect or reverence paid or rendered.
ii. it is something done or given in acknowledgment or consideration of the worth of another.
Base on my own understanding, it is an imitation that are very clearly shows/ or knows that it is copied from another. For an example, have the same title with the original one.

here is a slideshow that I found online that also gives an idea on what is homage, and in this slideshow is mainly focus on some artworks that pay homage to the famous artist. :}

What is Parody?
It is an imitation of a text's feature by another texts. It can be in similar style or feature similar motifs. In another word, parody is when someone makes fun of it by making the ideas (include a lot of things, such as events, music, novel, film, and etc) funny.

I will be exploring the parody of music videos/songs/art Some of the parody changes the lyrics to make it funny. It also enhance some of the movements and exaggerate it to shock the audience.

When I think of Parody music video, and that ONE video instantly pops out in my mind. Even that video I watched was few months ago BUT it leave a strong image/impact to me. And I still find it funny after I rewatch it for a few times. Hahahas.

Because this video doesn't follow the original dance moves or scenes, it merely just use the music and dance randomly with the beats. The bikini guy in this video exaggerate his dance moves and to shock the audience, he even put on a wig so that he looks like a female. But in the other way, he keeps his beard............. which really shock the audience, and FUNNY hahaha. From this video also showing that the reactions from people around the world (on Chatroulette) to his "performance". (This video has become viral at that time) :D

The-most-epic-parody of Call Me Maybe (Chatroulette)

another example of parody in art which is the portrait of Mona Lisa, and the others are the parody (of course there more than just these)

example using Twilight lol.
at last,
What is Pastiche?

Definition

ii. an artistic work consisting of a medley of pieces imitating various sources
iii. imitate the style of (an artist or work)

Origin
late 19th century: from French, from Italian pasticcio, based on late Latin pasta 'paste.
